Puppy Curriculum
The First Week
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI)
begins at 3 days old.
Pups are weighed daily to ensure adequate growth.
The puppies are blind, deaf, unable to regulate their own body temperature, and are unable to eliminate without stimulation from their mother.
Week 1
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI)
continue.
Pups are beginning to get stronger and pull themselves around the whelping bed much more quickly.
Nails will be trimmed every couple of days.
They are still reliant on their mother's warmth and care to survive.
Week 2
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI)
continue until day 16.
Their eyes begin to open and they begin pulling themselves up to walk.
They start to play and vocalize.
Noise desensitization begins!
They will begin to eliminate on their own towards the end of week three.
Week 3
Potty training begins! Litter trays are introduced and the puppies will instinctively begin to leave their bed to use them.
Puppies are given their first solid food (raw food mixed with goat's milk) but are still nursing frequently.
Week 4
Puppies' balance and motor skills are improving and they begin to play and walk farther each day.
They are eating solid food and nursing slightly less often.
They will experience different surfaces under their feet.
Noise and exposure desensitization continues. Eg fireworks, motorbikes, hairdressers,hoovers.
Week 5
Puppies are starting to run and play more roughly.
Their mother no longer stays with them at night.
Puppies are being brushed and handled frequently.
Litter training is being accompanied by outside training. Puppies will spend a lot of time outside in fair weather.
Week 6 + 7
Manding (sit for attention), recall, and marker word training begins.
Puppies go on outings in their stroller to experience the sights and sounds of the world safely.
Body handling and grooming training continues. Puppies will receive their first full bath.
Week 8
Puppies receive their vet check, first set of vaccinations, and microchip.
Outdoor excursions are more frequent and the puppies will meet as many new people as possible.
